Ray Bradbury: When The Muse Calls, Always Answer -- Immediately.

2001: Ray Bradbury gives the keynote address with stories
about his life and love of writing in "Telling the Truth,"
at The Sixth Annual Writer's Symposium by the Sea.

The graciously generous and iconic writer Ray Bradbury offered his insight on when the Muse calls one to write.

Mr. Bradbury described it this way, "When I awaken from a very vivid dream, I get right out of bed; and before I do another thing, I sit down at my typewriter and record that dream. If, I wait for even a moment and put it off -- it's gone forever! Many of my best story ideas have come from my dreams."

And, like Ray Bradbury, much of my best writing has come from the ethereal realm of my own dreams.

I am eternally grateful to Mr. Bradbury for his inspiring words, incredibly gifted writing, and for the kinship I’ve felt in our like-minded writing methodology.

  5. Thank you so very, very much for posting this. Bradbury is brilliant, and unbelievably humble. He is truly an inspiration. I was so captivated by him that I didn't even take notes, so I will watch again to do so on his generous advice. As well as for the pure joy of watching him.

  12. Thank you for your marvelous comments of that elusive Muse. She continually tugs on my cerebral sleeve, until I answer her, in writing, of course...

Bradbury is still a genius and continues to honor us with new works of wonder, today.

    Keep writing!

  13. Thanks for posting this video! I have Ray B.'s Zen in the Art of Writing on my shelf as the top most important inspiration on writing. His fire, his contagious boyish wonder, and his relentless determination are amazing. And through this video, I found out that he's pretty funny, too! (Fire your friends, those who don't believe in you. Fire them tonight!)

  14. I'm so happy to hear that you enjoyed, Ray Bradbury's excellent lecture, Claudine! There are many others to be found on YouTube, as well. As I'm sure you already know, Mr. Bradbury has had a huge influence and impact on my own writing. I am honored that he possesses a personal note from me, which was hand carried to him on his 90th birthday. Ray is truly one of the greatest writers in history!
